Clio Mattioli iss an artist who paints raw, evocative and vibrant portraits and scenes. A self-taught painter who works in oils, Mattioli layers paint over acrylic-primed canvases in a radiant crescendo of color, texture and fluidity. Mattioli's contemporary paintings are rooted in realism and translate as a love letter to her native Ecuador. Now based in Los Angeles, Mattioli is inspired by vivid memories and photographs to depict the diverse ethnicities, striking forms and vibrant colors of her beloved country. Each exuberant brushstroke celebrates the triumph, power, beauty, and joy of the Ecuadorian people. Delicate touches of nature adorn Mattioli's work. A butterfly here, a bumblebee there, or perhaps the poignant flourish of an elegant flower. Mattioli started painting in 2019, finally realizing her lifelong dream of storytelling through color and contour on canvas, a desire stretching back to artistic instincts first revealed in childhood, when she would lose herself in drawing for hours. For Mattioli, painting is a profound healing medium, a personal meditation of creative release that, serendipitously, resonates with others.
Mattioli is a former Miss Ecuador who competed for the title of Miss World. This high-profile platform called on her to perform a wide range of charitable work, from organizing events with organizations like UNICEF, to working inside Ecuadorian prisons on special programs aimed at inspiring hope among inmates. Mattioli's devotion to philanthropy continues today. She supports the Brent Shapiro Foundation, the Nancy Davis Foundation and Visionary Women. She is particularly dedicated to helping children through her support of Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Toys for Tots.
Following her turn as Miss Ecuador, Mattioli transitioned into an international career as a high fashion model. After spending years in front of the camera, she was inspired by the craftsmanship she glimpsed behind the scenes of the fashion industry to study at the Toronto Fashion Academy. In 2011, Mattioli launched Olaya Beach Swimwear. Her original, structured designs, which she meticulously sketched and sewed by hand, quickly became a favorite of A-list celebrities.
